Our accommodation and Academy facilities are set amidst 6 acres of grazing land and gardens, with north facing views of the spectacular Tasman Bay and the Western Ranges, and enjoy’s the all-day sunshine that Nelson has to offer.
Wakapuaka Estate will be slowly transformed into NZ’s only Aromatic Medicine Centre.
We provide accommodation to students who are coming to Nelson to study our Aroma Science, Aromatherapy and Reflexology courses.
Originally named ‘Sunnybank’, because of its sunny location and once colourful flowers on the property. In 1943, the Sisters of the Mission walked into their new home at Sunnybank to continue the work their order had been engaged in for 40 years at the convent at Manuka Street – the caring for and the education of boys. Motorists using the Nelson-Blenheim highway know full well the big buildings that constitute the home, and in the summer well-kept gardens that are a blaze of colour against the green of the hillside. In these buildings, five sisters and a priest tend to the material, educational and spiritual needs of up to 50 boys between the ages of 5 end 15. The home was not, as many people believe, an orphanage. By far the greatest number of boys there are from broken homes, and although most of the boys there are Catholic, there were boys of other denominations. The large spacious 27 bedroom house that was once a boy’s home was refurbished by Mike and Debbie Thomas when they purchased it in 2000.
